Mallorca Training Week 2011
April 9th is the date for the Mallorca trip next year.
Our annual Mallorca trip has finally been confirmed as the week commencing Saturday April 9th, returning Saturday April 16th. This year we will be staying in the Hotel Pollensa Park, on a half board basis. So far we have nine people committed to the trip. If you would like to join us (you don't have to be a Member - as long as we know you!), please get in touch with one of the weekend Club Run regulars this weekend (November 27-28th, as we will be booking the following Monday.
AGM
A very well attended Annual General Meeting was held on Monday November 22nd, the main outcome of which was the election of a new Committee. This is the first time for some years that there has been any substantial changes. The Club has grown in size considerably over the last couple of years, and it was felt that it would be good to have an injection of new blood into the running of the Club.
The new Officers are:
Chairman: John Parslow
Deputy Chairman: Colin Wright
Secretary / Membership: Mick Stojanovic
Treasurer / Membership: Jason Varnam
Racing Secretary: Shaun Eden
Social Secretary: Andy Fretwell
Senior Representative: Steve Plester
It was also decided to award the thoroughly deserved honour of Life Membership to both Colin and Sue Wright, and John Parslow, in recognition for all the dedicated hard work they have put into the running of the Club in various guises over the past three decades or so. |

Mince Pie Run
The Mince Pie Run will be held on Saturday December 18th. Meet at Lowdham at the usual time of 9.30am, to reach the venue at Southwell Garden Centre for 11.15 - 11.30am. Hopefully the weather will be kinder than last year, when only one intrepid Beard of Steel made the journey by Bike! |

Mapperley Open Ten Mile Time Trial
Saturday May 29th The event was marred somewhat by very unseasonable weather conditions, but this didn't stop the majority from riding. In fact some excellent times were posted under the circumstances, and winner Matt Bottrill (I-Ride.co.uk) again broke the Course Record with a fantastic time of 20:21, some 49 seconds ahead of James Perkins (Zenith CC) in second place in 21:10, with Mark Mallender (Rutland CC) just another 4 seconds back in third with 21:14. Mapperley rider Shaun Eden posted a Course Best 21:40 to take 4th place, leading Mapperley CC to the Fastest Team prize in our own event for the first time in quite some years! Jason Varnam ( 22:21) and Ewan Tarrant (22:37) were the other two counters towards this achievement. A basic results sheet is available here:

Saturday Club Runs
Please note that the Saturday Club Run now starts at the Winter time of 9.30am. Also we have relocated the rendezvous point to a new area, after a few problems getting everybody away safely on some Club Runs. The new meeting point is only about 60 metres from the original spot, across the road nearer the houses at the start of Lowdham village. There is a picture showing the new location on the Club Runs page. Sunday runs will also meet here from now on.

Club Nights
Meet on the first TUESDAY of the month, at the Ramsdale Park Golf Centre, Oxton Lane, Calverton. Join us in the bar from 8pm onwards, or 7pm if you wish to indulge in a meal first (or maybe swing at a basket of balls on the Golf Range).

Mapperley CC Mallorca Training Camp - April 2007
This year's Camp now seems but a dim, distant, wet memory. For once, the weather was not quite what we've come to expect from Mallorca!
Nevertheless, and as you might expect, our heroic group stoically suffered the misery of being unable to ride for nearly two and a half days, and turned this "bike downtime" into a positive by arranging various other forms of training. This involved, in the main, Carb and Protein loading, upper body weight training using varied heavy liquid filled glass weights, and for some of the extreme athletes amongst the group, late night (or even early morning) triathlon swim training in the Mediterranean!Eventually the weather relented, and began to resemble the Mallorcan climate we've all come to know and love, thus enabling our intrepid group to get on with the more important aspects of such trips, namely suffering on long climbs, dare-devil descending, cross country orienteering (with and without maps) and most importantly, "Eric Baiting". All of this, of course, fueled by copious amounts of pasta and varied (jamon y queso) bocadillos!
Next year, plans are afoot to change the venue completely (rather than just relocating on the Island), and currently Italy is the front runner. Watch this space for future info. |
