Club Forum

We are pleased to announce that a new facility for Members has been created and tested over the past couple of weeks, namely a Members Forum. This can be found at: http://www.mapperleycc.org/forum

This new Forum allows quick and easy contact between members, and a variety of Topics are already active. Anyone can view the Forum, but only Club Members can contribute, and to do so you must first register by following the instructions on the Read Me page. So why not pop along and check out what we get up to, and sign up if you haven't already done so!

Annual Subs

Just a gentle reminder that your Membership Subs of £15 for a Full Member were due on January 1st. If you haven't already paid up, please try and do so no later than next Club Night (Tuesday March 4th). If you joined after September 30th 2009 this does not apply until next January. The new Club Kit is due soon, and we need some pennies in the kitty!

Mallorca 2010 The date for this year's Training Camp/Holiday (use it as you wish) is the week commencing Saturday April 24th. We are going to Puerto Pollensa at the northern tip of the Island, for a week of (hopefully) warm weather riding. There is plenty of variety in the type of riding available, from easy flatlands, through rolling countryside to challenging mountain climbs! If you are interested in going and would like help with arranging flights and/or accommodation, speak to Jason, Phil or Steve P. Flights cost approximately £200 return, and accommodation is around £350 half board - rooms take 2-3 people. See some images from last time we were there below.....

Club Kit

The new Club Kit has now been ordered so we can look forward to receiving it in approximately 90 days. We will have to pay the balance owing before receiving the Kit from our new supplier, so start putting those pennies aside, and be prepared to pay up promtly when the time comes! Although this has been quite a mammoth task to organise, (we've never had to cater for so many people before) I think we shall all be very pleased when the new stuff is firmly in our sticky hands - or more appropriately perhaps, on our backs.

Below is a reminder of the final design.

Saturday Club Runs

Please not that the Saturday Club Run now starts at the winter time of 9.30am.

Mapperley Open 10 Time Trial

DE ROSA RACE TEAM WIN AGAIN!

Our annual Open 10 Mile Time Trial for the Brian Green Memorial Trophy was held on Saturday May 23rd, and although last year's winner Geoff Platts did not defend his title, the De Rosa Race Team kept their hands on the trophy (and their picture on the front cover of the Results Sheet) with Martin Garner winning in a time of 21:18.

A new trophy, the Sheila Plester Memorial Trophy for the fastest lady, was presented in it's inaugural year to Liz Pilkington of Derby Mercury CC, who won in a time of 26:43. The weather gods were kind to us again, and although there was the usual blustery wind, the sun shone throughout for the 58 competitors and the event ran without a hitch. Steve, the Event Secretary, would like to thank all those who entered and rode, the Timekeepers and of course all the 'volunteers' out on the course and back at the HQ, without whom the event would not be possible. We hope you all enjoyed it and to see you back again next year.

Full results can be seen by clicking here.

Club Nights

Meet on the first TUESDAY of the month, at the Ramsdale Park Golf Centre, Oxton Lane, Calverton. Join us in the bar from 8pm onwards, or 7pm if you wish to indulge in a meal first (or maybe swing at a basket of balls on the Golf Range).

Mapperley CC Mallorca Training Camp - April 2007

This year's Camp now seems but a dim, distant, wet memory. For once, the weather was not quite what we've come to expect from Mallorca!

Nevertheless, and as you might expect, our heroic group stoically suffered the misery of being unable to ride for nearly two and a half days, and turned this "bike downtime" into a positive by arranging various other forms of training. This involved, in the main, Carb and Protein loading, upper body weight training using varied heavy liquid filled glass weights, and for some of the extreme athletes amongst the group, late night (or even early morning) triathlon swim training in the Mediterranean!Eventually the weather relented, and began to resemble the Mallorcan climate we've all come to know and love, thus enabling our intrepid group to get on with the more important aspects of such trips, namely suffering on long climbs, dare-devil descending, cross country orienteering (with and without maps) and most importantly, "Eric Baiting". All of this, of course, fueled by copious amounts of pasta and varied (jamon y queso) bocadillos!

Next year, plans are afoot to change the venue completely (rather than just relocating on the Island), and currently Italy is the front runner. Watch this space for future info.

Ready for the final day's run to San Salvador! For more of the same, click the picture.
